The Centro Internazionale di Documentazione sul mosaico (CIDM) has published two volumes dedicated to the study of the ancient and contemporary mosaic. These publications are a propaedeutic instrument which allow the consultation of the mosaic database created by the CIDM, within the European project Interreg III A. The mosaic database is accessible to the user through the website http://www.mosaicoravenna.it, which inspired the title of the volumes.

The mosaic database, which gathers all the informations about the ancient and contemporary mosaic art works, is made up of specific cataloging-descriptive cards, based on the standards elaborated by the ICCD and suitable for the specific features of the art work. The elaboration of the cards has been assigned to some scholarship fellows who have studied at the Faculty of Arts, Preservation of the cultural Heritage and the Shool of mosaic Restoration. They have put their skills at disposal, making an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the mosaic art works possible.

The volume dedicated to the ancient mosaics makes a synthetic review of the mosaic decorations of the Unesco monuments in Ravenna and Parenzo, in order to offer an useful instrument of multimedia consultation of the complex informations, which would be impossible to publish completely in volumes. All the texts, which explain the different phases of work and the methodological choices, have been written by the staff museum and some scholarship fellows.
