The Church of St. Michele in Africisco in Ravenna, early Christian basilica of the Justinian Age, was built in accordance with Giuliano Argentario, functionary of the Byzantine court, in honour of the Archangel Michael.

The church was opened in 545 and consacreted in 547 by the Archbishop Massimiano. In 1805, after the Napoleon’s taking of the city, it has been deconsacrated. The apsidal mosaic was sold and the building structurally altered.

Thanks to the historical-iconographical reconstructions and shootings of Ravenna and Berlin, this video-document allows you to admire and know this church, which is now very different from its original structure, but still remains an important aspect of the history of Ravenna.
